The Damascus Road Foundation was inspired by the convergence of four things – a Void, an Encounter, a Purpose, and The Right Vehicle.

Rick Sutton, the founder of The Damascus Road Foundation, spent the first two thirds of his life feeling a void and seeking to find meaning and purpose to his life. Unfortunately, like many others, he tried to fill this void by chasing lots of worldly things, most of which were neither healthy, good, or even helpful at solving the problem.

Like Paul in the Bible, Rick had a “Damascus Road” encounter. The term “Damascus Road” encounter is described as “an important moment of insight, typically one that leads to a dramatic transformation of attitude, perspective, or belief”. Rick's void was not knowing the purpose God had created him for.

Rick discovered his purpose in life was to help others discover God’s purpose for their own life and to help them live out that purpose. This is because a world where everyone knows and is living out their God given purpose creates the best world ever – more joy, more creativity, more commerce, less discouragement, less crime, and less suicide. For the greatest tragedy in life is not death. It is living without a purpose!
While The Damascus Road Foundation desires to help everyone, they have an extra strong desire to champion this cause for woman who have fallen out of social graces in the world – the homeless, the incarcerated, the mistreated, the abused, and the disadvantaged.

In 2021, Rick met Frank and Sherri Candelario of Kate’s House Foundation. Their vision was to end housing insecurity by providing a revolutionary model for recovery homes – purchasing nice, single-family homes in safe neighborhood and run by a set of national standards. Frank and Sherri and Kate’s House Foundation became the right vehicle for The Damascus Road Foundation to use and follow.
